| First a disclaimer : Feminists turn me on. There's something incredibly sexy about a feminist railing about equal rights and so on. Probably because they're sexually repressed. I dunno, but there should be a porn film made starring feminists. Maybe a few perverts like me would sign up. Anyway, point is that I might be a bit biased about this whole feminist porn and politics thing.
Ok, with that out of the way, let's talk about porn for women and politics. There was this awards ceremony held in Toronto called "2006 Feminist Porn Award". More on that here : "Although some auteurs wouldn't call their smut political, I think making porn can be a political act, just as valid and valuable as other forms of activism within the women's movement."
The politics they're talking about is for the empowerment of women, equal rights, etc. Allow me to elaborate a bit - Women are more than capable and welcome to make, produce and market porn - But you can't go around saying that you're also fighting for the feminist movement in the process.
You see, women can be equal and more than an equal in the porn industry, but to say that you're contributing to womens' rights in the process seems to a bit of a stretch. You could argue that it's in no way degrading or oppresing against women ( debatable ), but someone explain to me how a woman, a feminist, making a porn film, is contributing to the women's movement? That's like saying you're going along on a robbery heist while trying to reduce crime. Note that I'm not agreeing with the feminist brigade that porn is degrading to women, just saying that I can't see how the opposite is true. Anyway, maybe Tristan Taormino has a better explanation.
To wrap it up, I don't normally jump outright into Liberal vs. Conservative action, but this one here has all the right ingredients : "Coulter is fond of saying that feminists are ugly, describing one as "physically repulsive."
